Nominees must be (1) alive and (2) either a UK subject or UK resident. Sarah Vine writes: "To be a national treasure - in Britain at least - requires a very particular set of qualities. Intelligence, yes, but plenty of self-deprecation too. Wit, yes, but also a certain air of melancholy where appropriate.... And, of course, just the tiniest hit of vulnerability" (The Times, 15 July 2005). These are not necessarily the views of the webmasters, whose decisions are final - though they alter over time. You may object to the entitlement of persons to be on the list, for any stated reason, and we will think about it.
