ESO MISSION STATEMENT

Through high quality public orchestral concerts of broad and specialised interest, and other related activities and events, primarily held in Eastbourne and district, the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra will

advance musical education, including that of young persons, by providing opportunities to play, perform and experience live orchestral music-making; and

promote and develop public interest and education in, and appreciation of, orchestral music in all its variety and at all levels.

- agreed by the ESO Working Group on 21.12.99

ESO POLICY

The Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra will sustain and increase opportunities for

musicians - professional, semi-professional and amateur - to meet, work together and perform orchestral works of diverse musical characteristics and requirements;
young musicians to demonstrate and develop their talent, as ensemble or solo performers, in rehearsal and public performance with more established players;
new composers to hear their work realised in rehearsal and performance;
better informed public understanding and appreciation of orchestral performance;
public access to performances, rehearsals and performance-related talks and discussions including workshops
;
very young persons to begin to experience and appreciate orchestral music and to reinforce that experience
;
interested and disadvantaged groups to attend formal events and less formal musical activities
;
an integrated contribution to the musical life of Eastbourne
;
co-operation with other musical organisations including choral organisations; and
making the cultural resources of Eastbourne more familiar in the region and further afield.

The Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra will seek support and sponsorship from a range of private and public sources, in order to increase the quality, variety and frequency of its events and activities and to keep attendance costs affordable.
